Regarding: Reconciliation: How to fix actions or times so trades appear in the tax reports

Question:
I am sending you a picture of a transaction that doesn't add up. I have 3 buy and 3 sell transactions, however, the account is not in balance. Seems that the transactions are out of sync by date as well and I think that may be what is throwing off the application. I have a couple of instances of this occurring in my account.

Answer:
We agree. There is a need for reconciliation. You may want to start by selecting File/Save As so you can return to this point later by using File/Open.

Reconcile One Trade At A Time...
To fix trades one at a time select Screen: Transactions, Display View: Positions - Reconcile. While looking at alerts (Transaction Screen: Display View: Positions Reconciliation) you can use right mouse to show a menu of quick tools that allow you to adjust time, edit the trade, adjust long/short etc.

For help, select View/Reconcile Gain/Loss. Click on the Help link and then select analyze, it leads to a help page. Follow the steps for fixing the Alerts. This page has instructions on how to change the time so Buys are before Sells. Alternatively you can change the actions so Short Sales are before Buy to Cover.

Reconcile Many At A Time...
You can also experiment to find the best way to fix trades (maybe one of the tools will fix most - Tool/Reconcile - Best Fit). Or one of the other bulk mode tools like Tools/Sequence Error Discovery. To know which approach is best, read a few of the alert messages using the first approach.
