Reconcile an Account and Options

Regarding: Reconcile an Account and Options
Keywords: Reconcile, Current Position, TA Calculated

Reconcile Account is helpful with understanding if the current holding for each symbol is correct.

[Customer]: Right now I am in "Reconcile An Account (Missing Position Recovery)" and I
do not think I am doing it correctly. I am trying to match TA "Calculation
to Current" and I downloaded brokers values from the same dialog window.

[Support]: The idea of this dialog is to find differences in your held position and what is in TA. You can add a value to the "Current" column to indicate your current position. We added some fancy hyperlinks to make it easier to view what you have, add a trade or remove a trade.

[Customer]: Under "Action Required" has "Add 15 or Remove 15" , the column for "TA
Calculated" reads 15 and the "Current" column reads 0. I am amusing that the
"Current" is correct because I just downloaded it from the "brokers" website and
confirmed it with the statement. Since "Current" is "0" that means it
expired worthless therefore. Since I sold to open and it expired worthless
is it buy to close 15 contracts or is "O". Should I be trying to match the
"TA Calculations" to the "Current" column assuming that is correct because
of the download?

[Support]: Great questions. We will edit out personal information and also share this in the knowledge base.

The "Current" column is not correctly populated from the sync process. As of Oct/2009 the default values are set to 0. You can review and change each value by clicking on each or you can set all to the current TA Calculated value.

Regarding all securities, you can Buy to Open or Sell to Open. Then close positions with a Sell or Buy to Cover. Buys or Journal In increment the position count and Sell or Journal Out or Exercise, Assign or Expire decrement the position count.

Before deciding what value to use for Current, try the following.
a) Tools/Options - Automatic. You can close hundreds of options at a time.

For example if you had 5 contracts open then Reconcile an Account would show...
TA Calculated = 15
Current = 0
Action Required: "Add 15 or Remove 15" - this means...

... if you add 15 to the current column by clicking on it and editing then you can resolve this difference
... Alternatively you can process the options first, see below.

When you select "Exercise", "Assign" or "Expire" using Tools/Options - Automatic, it will group with the opening trade. After this you should see the following in the Reconcile an Account.
TA Calculated = 0
Current = 0
