Regarding: Short Sell Trade Dates in Tax Report
Keywords: short sell, buy to cover, buy, sell date acquired, date sold

Question:
================================================================
When I pair a short sale with a buy to cover in the manual groups view of the transaction screen, under group details a short term gain is listed. In the tax reports tab, listing the gain with an incorrect date sold (9/16 should be 9/23). What is causing this? What can I do about it
Answer:
================================================================
For Short Sells, the date that appears in the tax report is affected by the settings for Date Preference (see View/Properties/Date Preference - Date Acquired Definition). For example if the preference is set to Buy/Sell the it will show the Buy or Buy to Cover date in the Date Acquired column. If you change it to Open/Close then it will show Buy or Short Sell to Open in the Date Acquired column.
